Robin Hood increase cargo business
29.07.08
Robin Hood Airport is handling an increasing number of cargo flights - heading from Yorkshire to all parts of the globe. The news comes as the airport is bidding to relax limits on 24-hour flying, which could lead to an increase in night time cargo flights.
Officials say the airport experienced significant growth in cargo processed in June, handling dedicated wide body freight flights including Boeing 747, Airbus A300 and MD-11 flights, and handling a mix of cargo including car parts, food produce and printed material. Flights have been taking goods to locations including Europe, the Far East to North America.
The airport has asked Doncaster Council to relax existing planning rules preventing louder aircraft from taking off or landing between 23:00 and 07:00, arguing that the current restrictions are to the economic detriment of Doncaster. However, residents living near the airport are against the plans over noise fears.
