Airport in talks to land 'big airlines'
26.08.08
Robin Hood Airport is in talks with major airlines to try to persuade them to launch flights from the site. Although the airport is currently losing about £1m a month, its new boss has said he is confident the situation will be turned around.
Mike Morton said marketing staff are in negotiations with airlines other than budget carriers. He told the BBC: ‘There are airlines out there who are very interested. Our aviation director is in negotiation with those airlines.'
‘It would be too early to actually mention them by name, but there are people out there who are very, very interested. We're not just talking about the low-cost airlines, we're talking about the legacy [full service scheduled] carriers as well.’
