Record summer weapons haul

More than 100 weapons was seized from passengers arriving at Robin Hood Airport in a clampdown over the summer. They included throwing stars, CS gas, machetes, stun guns, samurai swords, knives and imitation firearms, the UK Border Agency said.
The weapons were seized during an operation from May to October, with the haul the biggest during any 5 month period since the airport opened in 2005. They were all taken from passengers arriving from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Greece, Ibiza, Majorca and other Spanish destinations and Turkey.
The UK Border Agency said it works alongside South Yorkshire Police ‘to prevent weapons ending up on our streets’. All the weapons were destroyed.
