Airport boss to leave at the end of the month
16.01.08
The man who was in charge of the development of Robin Hood Airport since before it opened is to leave at the end of the month. David Ryall, who is managing director and director of aviation services at the airport, said the time was right to move on and seek new challenges within or outside the aviation industry.
Mr Ryall said that the challenge of taking the airport from an concept to becoming the first commercial airport of its type to be opened in the UK for 60 years had been immense. But the airport now had a cohesive team, performing to a very high standard, and was regarded by many as an example for others to follow.
He added that he had set the timing of his departure against an encouraging rise in passenger numbers since 2005, as it moved from 'new' to 'normal' operations. As the airport set-up phase was complete, it was the right time to hand the baton on to someone else, he said.
John Whittaker, the Chairman of Robin Hood Airport owner Peel Holdings, said: 'David's effort and contribution over the past 6 years has been highly commendable.' He said that he respected Mr Ryall's decision to leave and wished him well in the future.
