Emergency landing
15.07.08
A holiday jet performed an emergency landing at Robin Hood Airport yesterday, the Doncaster Press reports. A full emergency was declared after the pilot of a Thomsonfly Boeing 737 radioed air traffic controllers to say he needed to return after developing technical problems.
The plane, with 186 passengers on board, suffered navigational problems shortly after leaving that airport for Larnaca in Cyprus at 09.15 yesterday. It circled for about 40 minutes to burn off fuel before coming back in to land.
The airport's fire service was joined by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, police and paramedics as the plane was carrying more fuel than it would when normally landing. It landed safely at 10:20 and no other flights were affected by the incident.
The passengers were transferred to Manchester Airport where they were put on flights to Larnaca yesterday.
