Locals unhappy over low-flying planes
13.10.06
Disgruntled locals who claim their lives are being made a misery by noise from aircraft using Robin Hood Airport are calling for further talks with bosses at the hub. Residents from the village of Everton want to highlight concerns about the height and frequency of planes and believe an indicative map of flight paths which appeared on original airport plans is not being adhered to.
Former district councillor the Everton Ward Frank Martin, of Church Street, is leading a campaign, to get local councils behind them to champion their cause. He said: 'At this stage more and more people in our village are becoming concerned. It sometimes seems they are so low that you could touch the belly of the plane. The flight path they take doesn't seem to follow what they planned.'
Mr Martin, 70, a retired finance company director, added: 'We have not been consulted and all we are asking for is some dialogue with the airport on what the future holds.'
Robin Hood Airport's spokesman, Steve Adamson, said Everton residents were consulted at the initial planning stages and extensive research was carried out into the noise impact of flights.
He said: 'Our environmental manager has met with residents of Everton, who received this information.'
Robin Hood Airport has developed a public noise complaints procedure as approved by the local planning authority to handle, monitor, investigate and report each complaint lodged by members of the public.
Mr Adamson said residents who want to register a complaint should telephone (01302) 623623, write to: Environment Co-ordinator, Robin Hood Airport, Heyford House, First Avenue, Doncaster, DN9 3RH, or email: environment@robinhoodairport.com
