EU rule means wartime plane will make last passenger flight from Robin Hood next weekend

13.04.08

Passenger flights from Robin Hood Airport in a wartime Dakota plane are to end next weekend, because of new EU rules. The regulations coming into force in the summer will stop the famous DC3 aircraft from taking off with passengers on tour flights.

During WWII, the iconic 36-seater aircraft carried British paratroopers to fight across Northern Europe, dropping soldiers to famous battles including Arnhem and D-Day. But tour firm Classic Flight is having to stop passenger flights in the aircraft because it does not have modern navigation equipment needed to comply with new European regulations.

The last flight by the Dakota at Robin Hood Airport will be next weekend (April 19 and 20). The £65 flights can be booked online at: www.classicflight.com, or by calling 08703 304 747.
