Airport losing £1m a month

Robin Hood Airport is losing around £1m a month, the Sheffield Telegraph reports. The news comes as bosses at the hub urge South Yorkshire's politicians to continue to support the business.
The airport said that it has been hit by a series of financial hurdles including tax hikes and rises in fuel and security costs. However, they believe the losses are short term and stressed they were optimistic about the future.
Neil Pakey, deputy chief executive of airport owners Peel, said: ‘We have invested £100m in developing the airport. With over a million passengers a year, we remain optimistic about the airport's future and the opportunities available for further growth.'
‘We have recently recruited 3 directors, with 2 of these focused on developing the airline and cargo markets. We cannot do it alone though and urge the regional stakeholders and politicians to continue to support us.’
