Passengers travelling via Robin Hood Airport increased by 17.3% in July compared to a year earlier, as 120,000 passengers passed through the terminal. The airport also recorded its busiest ever month for flights to Amsterdam, Belfast, Barcelona, Katowice / Cracow, Malaga, Palma and Pisa.
Robin Hood Airport has handled 2.1 million passengers since opening in April 2005, and serves almost 50 destinations, including Canada, Florida, Mexico and the Caribbean. The airport has enjoyed a steady increase in the number of travellers jetting off overseas thanks to the steady introduction of new routes to destinations including Eastern Europe and Turkey, with new services to Gdansk and Bodrum launched in the last 12 months proving popular in July.
The most popular route in July was Thomsonfly's service to Palma de Mallorca, with flights to Dublin, Jersey, Malaga and Alicante making up the top 5.
David Ryall, Robin Hood's managing director, said: 'We are growing [routes] choice organically, and new routes that have opened over the past 12 months have firmly established themselves in the market. We are looking ahead to more new routes this winter, including Lanzarote, Sharm el Sheikh, Poznan, Wroclaw and the reintroduction of flights to and from Geneva.'
