Miltary planes still using Robin Hood Airport
09.03.08
RAF crews may have moved out years ago - but military aircraft are still using the former RAF Finningley runway, even though it was converted to form part of Robin Hood Airport three years ago. According to press reports, the site is being used by air forces and airlines for training purposes in addition to its regular role as a civilian airport.
Among the aircraft seen using the airport in the last few weeks was a C-27 Spartan transport plane operated by the Italian air force. It was one of a number of aircraft which have been seen carrying out training flights this week, also including an Oasis Hong Kong jumbo jet.
A spokesman for the airport said: ‘We regularly welcome commercial and military crew training, due to our location and high standards of service. Airlines are required to carry out frequent training for both new and existing flight deck - pilots and first officers - and we are delighted to help.’
