Prince to have second attempt at opening airport
08.05.07
Robin Hood Airport is hoping it will be second time lucky for an official Royal opening this week. The Duke of York is set to official open the airport on Thursday (May 10), more than a month after he had to postpone a previously planned visit because of fog and over two years after the first commercial flights took off from the airport.
Prince Andrew was due to fly in to open the airport on March 28 - but the trip was cancelled on the morning of the event because bad fog stopped him landing. All being well, the prince will open the airport, meet staff and tour the site on Thursday. He has already used the airport as a customer, having landed there last September during a visit to South Yorkshire.
