Passengers at Robin Hood Airport increased by 23% in August compared with the same month a year earlier. More than 132,000 passengers passed through the terminal last month, with flights to Palma de Mallorca, Dublin and Malaga the most popular.
David Ryall, the airport's managing director, said: 'I'm delighted to report such a big increase. This demonstrates the impact Robin Hood Airport continues to have on the region.'
'Looking ahead, new routes opening up this winter include Lanzarote, Sharm el Sheikh, Poznan and Wroclaw. We will also enjoy the reintroduction of high frequency flights to and from Geneva, a route which is in much demand.'
The airport, which opened in April 2005, has handled a total of 2.28 million passengers and currently offers flights to more than 40 destinations, including long haul flights to Canada, Florida and Mexico.
