Councillor backs rail link calls

Calls to extend the train line from Mansfield to Robin Hood Airport and on to Doncaster have been backed by a leading councillor. Kate Allsop, Mansfield District Council's portfolio holder for regeneration, said extending the line to the airport would benefit people in Mansfield and elsewhere along the line.
Councillor Allsop said: ‘I think this is a marvellous idea. The branding is already in place [it is called the Robin Hood line], which would fit in perfectly with Robin Hood Airport. If the line was extended it would also reduce the amount of people having to drive their cars to the airport and pay expensive car parking fees. I would fully support anything to push forward getting the line extended.’
A public meeting to discuss plans has been organised by Gainsborough Liberal Democrats and will be held at The Angel Suite, Market Place, Brigg, from 10:15 on April 19.
