Passengers up 5.7% in January

Passengers flying via Robin Hood Airport increased by 5.7% in January compared to a year earlier, as 62,347 people travelled through the hub. However, the growth is fairly modest for such a new airport.
Since it opened in April 2005 the airport has handled 2.7 million passengers. It now offers flights to 40 destinations and is the only base in the region to offer flights to the Polish cities of Katowice, Gdansk, Poznan, Wroclaw and Warsaw. Alicante in Spain was the top destination but flights to Poland are increasingly popular, the airport said in a statement.
Owner Peel Airport's Group Airport Director, Hugh Lang, said: 'We're happy to report the growth in passengers, which demonstrates the continued impact the airport has on the region. We have just seen the launch of new flights to Poznan and Wroclaw, and look forward to new routes starting in the Summer, including Heraklion in Crete and Warsaw, Poland's capital.'
