Airport boss warns on UK only emissions scheme
05.11.09
A senior manager at Robin Hood Airport has said that any deal on aviation industry emissions must be on a global basis. The airport is a member of the Airport Operators Association (AOA) and a report commissioned by the association said UK-only measures would deal a severe blow to passengers and the economy.
In the report it is claimed that average fares would rise. If growth in flying were restricted to just 1.5% a year, a measure suggested as a UK only alternative to an international emissions cap, average return air fares could see a 40% rise from £258 to £360 by 2020, it says.
Robin Hood Airport's Neil Pakey said: ‘We need to continue to work hard with other parts of the aviation sector to realise a global deal on emissions.’
