Flight path changes approved
05.07.08
New measures to improve flight safety and enhance air traffic control at Robin Hood Airport have been approved. The changes on aircraft arrival and departure flight paths should reduce the airport's noise footprint and bring environmental benefits.
The Civil Aviation Authority approved the measures after consultation by the airport with the aviation community, local government and environmental groups. They allow for greater use of continual descent approaches, which keep inbound aircraft at higher altitudes for longer, allowing reduced engine power settings and lower fuel consumption, giving noise and emissions reductions.
Richard Massingham, Manager Air Traffic Services at Robin Hood Airport said: ‘These changes will improve safety for all airspace users whilst delivering important environmental benefits.’
