Link road scheme boost

A Robin Hood Airport link road moved a step closer to reality after a £160m series of road schemes in Doncaster were given backing. The Regional Transport Board of the Yorkshire Assembly confirmed the Finningley and Rossington Relief Road Scheme is on its list of priorities for construction over the next 10 years, and it is calling on the Government to pay toward the scheme.
The scheme will now be referred to Minister for Yorkshire Rosie Winterton. She will take it up with the Government, who will still need to confirm it will take the scheme on after considering the business case and environmental impact. However, it is the first time the Yorkshire regional organisation has given the scheme its unconditional backing as a priority for the county. Doncaster Council hope to see work start on the relief road by 2013.
