Robin Hood is the UK's newest airport, opening in May 2005. It is situated in the heart of the Yorkshire and Humber region, close to the cities of Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, York and Lincoln. It was previously an RAF base (RAF Finningley) and was converted into a commercial airport by Peel Airports, who also own Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
Robin Airport Airport is 6 miles (10 kms) southeast of Doncaster or 18 miles (30 kms) northeast of Sheffield. It is easily accessible from the UK’s major motorways including the M62 (Hull to Liverpool), M1 (London to Leeds), the A1 (London to Edinburgh) and also the M18.
The airport has one terminal, with an arrivals and departures floor. Passenger numbers were expected to be around 800,000 in the period May - December 2005. It has a runway capable of handing Boeing 747's and is also used for freight.
There is ample parking at Robin Hood airport, with over 2500 short term and long term airport parking spaces in a car park right in front of the airport. There is also one airport hotel close to the airport offering an overnight stay plus free airport parking package.
